An Ode To Spring: Courtesy of Frances Williams

Welcome to another Wildcard Wednesday! Today’s post will be short and sweet. In honor of the recent coming of spring, I thought I’d share with you a cool recording I have of Frances Williams singing “Spring Fever” from Life Begins At 8:40 (1934) on the radio in March 1935. Ms. Williams  — who played herself in the musical we covered here last week, “The Cocoanuts” — was in the original Broadway production of Life Begins At 8:40. But because this predated the age of cast albums, none of the original cast recorded their numbers. So, this, as you can imagine, is quite thrilling. Never before released, here’s Frances Williams singing the song she introduced on Broadway 80 years ago, “Spring Fever. (Music by Harold Arlen; lyrics by Ira Gershwin and E.Y. “Yip” Harburg.)
