Want some Cole Porter? I thought so!

Welcome to a new Musical Theatre Monday! This month, I’m offering a live audio recording of the Encores! March 2017 concert production of Cole Porter’s The New Yorkers (1930), a show that we covered as part of our initial Ripe For Revival series in 2013. The cast of this production included Cyrille Aimée, Clyde Alves, Todd Buonopane, Arnie Burton, Kevin Chamberlin, Mylinda Hull, Robyn Hurder, Byron Jennings, Eddie Korbich, Tam Mutu, Jeffrey Schecter, Scarlett Strallen, Tyler Lansing Weaks, and Ruth Williamson. Subscribed readers interested in a downloadable link to this audio should kindly comment below! (I also have an audio of the 2009 Lost Musicals production, which I’ve shared in the past and am still offering for interested subscribers who missed it before and request access in the comments.)

Here’s an excerpt of the audio — this is Buonopane, Hull, and company with the delicious and delectable “I’m Getting Myself Ready For You.” Enjoy!

Come back next month for another Musical Theatre Monday rarity! And stay tuned tomorrow for more Seinfeld!

    • Hi, Mark! Thanks for reading and commenting.

I have once again emailed you at your verizon address with access to the BBC audio of JUBILEE. (The first email was sent in May 2014, but that link has since expired.)

Also, I am always happy to share with subscribers. However, in the future, just be sure to comment on the corresponding individual post — that’s easier for me when keeping track of requests!

      • Thanks so much.
You mad my day! Porter is always on the top of my list.
I have been enjoying JUBILEE all day!

  1. You have just made my Mother’s Day complete! I would love links to both of the audio tracks. Thank you for more Cole Porter!

  2. Thanks for coming back with Cole. I do not know any complete version of the show. It will be wonderful to hear The Great Indoors and other unusual Porter songs. I would love to have both links. Thank you.

    • Hi, Maleso! Thanks for reading and commenting.

I have emailed you at the hotmail address with which you subscribed to this blog.

  3. hi jackson-thanks as always for bringing us more cole!!! I heard great things about the new encores production. I would love links to both shows! thanks!

  4. I absolutely love Cole Porter. Could you please send both? I would greatly appreciate it! I love seeing your articles pop into my inbox!

  5. This is such a treat! Thanks for sharing it with us. I would both concert versions. I can’t wait to see what’s next.

    • Hi, Ray! Thanks for reading and commenting.

I have emailed you at your comcast address. Stay tuned next month for some Harold Rome…

  6. Hi Jackson,
I’d love to have a copy of Encore’s The New Yorkers. Many thanks for sharing.

  7. It would be difficult for me to come up with an absolute top favorite composer of American musicals. Suffice to say this week’s subject, Cole Porter, is up there with Gershwin, Rogers, Berlin and Kern. For me, each has their own unique appeal, with musical genius a common denominator. Of course there are many others who often come close to these absolute giants.
I always look forward to your offerings each Monday (although, here in Australia, it is already Tuesday 😉🇦🇺).
Please keep up the good work.

    • Hi, duxkino! Thanks for reading and commenting.

One of the reasons I publish posts at 10:00 PM EST the night before is to ensure that every reader has the opportunity to first see Musical Theatre Mondays, Sitcom Tuesdays, etc. on their corresponding days! In Sydney, for instance, you’ll be able to see next month’s Musical Theatre Monday entry on a Monday at noon!

  8. Hi, Jackson! I hope you are enjoying happy travels. I myself just got home from a trip abroad and saw this blog post. When you get home, could you send me the recording of the Encores! concert? I would love to hear it. Many thanks. –Scott

  9. Glad to see so much appreciation for this underrated score. It’s too bad the Encores production didn’t receive a cast recording. Thank you for helping keep the show alive—would love to hear the 2009 Lost Musicals recording!

  10. Hi Jackson,

I’d love the New Yorkers audio. I saw this one. It was a very fun evening, though I kind of wish they hadn’t interpolated so much stuff from other shows. I guess they felt like they needed to fill the score out (which wouldn’t have been a problem if they’d done Jubilee…)

  11. I like the old musicals because one finds songs that are singable, hummable, and memorable,as well as sad, fun and easier to listen to without being blowing out one’s ears. I like Cole Porter music ever since the movie High Society. Just have fun finding more of his music. Would love to have a copy of the audio for the New Yorker.
Thanks so much for your blog. I have been going back into your archives to find other gems.
