Welcome to a new Wildcard Wednesday! This week, I’ve got another bonus Musical Theatre Monday, this one in celebration of Cole Porter, whose 129th birthday anniversary was June 9th.
We’re honoring him with a show that’s come up a few times before on this blog, including as part of a Porter series — and it’s actually one of his few scores that’s well-represented on disc, with a compilation album of original cast performances taken from radio broadcasts, and then two other complete recordings from 42nd Street Moon and P.S. Classics.
Yes, you aficionados already know: I’m talking about Something For The Boys (1943). Well, you can never have too much of this swingin’ WWII-era joy-fest, so I’ve got three audios to share — with subscribers who comment below to alert me of their interest. The first is a “songs only” bootleg from Lost Musicals’ 1995 production. Here’s Louise Gold with “He’s A Right Guy.”
The next is a studio recording made by the Theatre Conservatory, Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University in 2002. There were some interpolations for this production, but here’s “I’m In Love With A Soldier Boy.”
And the last (no sample — you’ll have to comment below, subscribers!) is an untracked audio of the 2012 Musicals Tonight production — it’ll give you an understanding of the book.
Come back Monday for another Musical Theatre rarity! And a new Wildcard next week!
Jackson, I’d love a copy of these!
Thanks!
