Welcome to a new Musical Theatre Monday! This month, we’re paying annual tribute to Ethel Merman, who was born 115 years ago — on January 16, 1908!
In honor of this quintessential Broadway diva, I’m offering for subscribers — who comment below to alert me of their private, non-commercial interest — access to a live audio of La Merm in concert. It comes from her July 1982 stint in New Orleans, where she played the city’s Municipal Auditorium with the New Orleans Pops. The set list is almost identical to her Carnegie Hall concert from earlier that year, but for completists, this is NOT to be missed! Heck, you can never have too many recordings of Merman leading “Alexander’s Ragtime Band.”
Come back next month for another musical rarity! And stay tuned for more sitcom fun!
There will never be anyone like Lá Merm!
