Book Report: May 2025

Welcome to a new Wildcard Wednesday! Just as I’ve done the past few months, I want to provide another periodic update regarding my new book, GREAT AMERICAN SITCOMS OF THE 1950s, which you can purchase from me here, on Amazon here, or anywhere online that books are sold — including from the publisher itself, McFarland.

One of the perks in buying from me — aside from getting a signed (or even personalized) copy — is that I’ll also send you info on how to access a special Dropbox folder where you can view some of the rarer, hard-to-find episodes discussed in the book. In fact, every month since the February release, I’ve been rotating episodes into that folder, and this week I just put in new entries from a handful of shows that, admittedly, aren’t my favorite, but are fascinating points of discussion in the text — namely, My Little Margie, The Life Of Riley, The People’s Choice, Date With The Angels, and Peck’s Bad Girl. They join recently added samples of I Married Joan and The Ann Sothern Show. If you’re interested in any of these titles, purchase the book from me here!

Now, I must also note that I will be out of the country until June 10. So, any orders you place with me in the next few weeks will not be shipped until I return. However, I’ll send you access to the Dropbox link right away — so please keep your orders coming! And if any of you out there haven’t purchased my book yet, don’t worry — there’s no better time than the present!

Speaking of presents, here’s a 1956 episode of December Bride that I rotated out of the folder a few months ago — it’s “Sunken Den,” which notably guests Desi Arnaz as himself and is indeed cited in the book. (Remember, Desilu filmed December Bride!) It’s wholesome merriment!

Come back next week for another Wildcard! And stay tuned tomorrow for more Parks And Rec! Oh, also — I’d be so grateful if you would share your thoughts on (mostly) 2000s sitcoms in my latest reader survey! Read more about it here, and fill it out here!
