Book Report: January 2026

Welcome to a new Wildcard Wednesday! I’m back with my now-monthly update regarding my book, GREAT AMERICAN SITCOMS OF THE 1950s, which was released in early 2025. I’m happy to remind everyone that you can purchase it from me here, on Amazon here, or anywhere online that books are sold — including from the publisher itself, McFarland.

One of the perks in buying from me — aside from getting a signed (or even personalized) copy — is that I’ll also send you info on how to access a special Dropbox folder where you can view some of the rarer, hard-to-find episodes discussed in the book. In fact, every month since the release, I’ve been rotating episodes into that folder. This week, I’ve put in installments of The Amos ‘n Andy Show, The Bob Cummings Show, The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show, Our Miss Brooks, Stanley, and Trouble With Father.  I hope they’ll aid your appreciation of these series, along with my appraisal of them in GREAT AMERICAN SITCOMS OF THE 1950s!

As an enticement, here’s a clip — just a clip — of Carol Burnett’s funny debut episode of Stanleyoften referred to as “Celia Goes to a TV Show” (or “Stanley Gets Jealous”), where the series parodies the recent Elvis Presley craze. This first aired on October 22, 1956. Enjoy!

Come back next week for another Wildcard! And stay tuned Tuesday for more sitcom fun!
