Joyce’s Turn

Welcome to a new Wildcard Wednesday! This week, we talked about one of the worst sitcom seasons we’ve ever studied from 1977-’78. As a tonic, we need something related to one of that year’s success stories, the joyfully simple Three’s Company (1977-1984, ABC), which featured a memorable cast that included the era’s most undersung “straight woman,” Joyce DeWitt.

In celebration, I have — with my tongue only half in my cheek — something to share with subscribers who comment below to alert me of their interest: an audio of Joyce DeWitt as the great Madame Rose in the 2005 Bucks County Playhouse production of Gypsy (1959). Here’s an excerpt of this notable curio (on what other website would you find this?) — enjoy!

Come back next week for another Wildcard! And stay tuned Tuesday for more Good Times!
