Welcome to a new Wildcard Wednesday! This week, our “1950s takeover” in celebration of my first book, Great American Sitcoms of the 1950s — which you can always buy here (or on Amazon here) — is concluding. But before we step back next month into the 21st century with a study of 30 Rock, I want to bid a brief farewell to the Eisenhower decade by thanking everyone who’s purchased my book so far — I’m grateful for your support and I sincerely hope you enjoy it.
And for those of you who’ve yet to buy, I want to remind you that if you order from me directly, I will send you an autographed copy with a special link where you can access some of the rare episodes discussed in the text. In fact, I just rotated into the folder three new hard-to-find episodes this weekend — from Burns And Allen, I Married Joan, and December Bride (joining Amos ‘n Andy, Bob Cummings, Our Miss Brooks, and Trouble With Father) — and I’ll continue to rotate episodes in every month for the remainder of this year. So, the earlier you buy, the more I’ll be able to share with you for your private, non-commercial enjoyment, in accordance with the research and analysis in my book. Of course, you can also buy from Amazon — which has a Kindle version available as well (and you don’t have to have a Kindle device to read it). I recommend purchasing from Amazon if you’re interested in leaving a five-star review (for which I’d be most grateful) — in fact, thank you to everyone who has already shared kind words about the book to me, either publicly or privately. I appreciate you and your regard for my work.
As for what’s next, like I said, we’re going back to the 2000s on this blog but I’ll keep you posted about any updates regarding another book. If that’s in the cards for me, it’ll be a continuation of this series, focusing on the 1960s — an era with a lot of favorites. And in the meantime, if you want a 1960s book, go out and buy my 1950s one — and tell your friends too!
Lastly, as we say goodbye to the 1950s as a regular focus here, here’s an episode that I’ve shared before — the pilot and premiere of Betty White’s first network sitcom, the Desilu-filmed Date With The Angels (1957-1958, ABC). Pick up my book to find out what I have to say about it!
Come back next week as we finally return to the 2000s with 30 Rock!
