Welcome to a new Wildcard Wednesday… on a Tuesday! Once again, I have to preempt our regular Sitcom Tuesday coverage of Get Smart to accommodate my schedule, but don’t worry, we’ll be back at it next week. In the meantime, I have another rarity to share with you…
This time it’s not an episode, but a script from my personal collection. It’s the 38th installment of TV’s The George Burns And Gracie Allen Show, which was broadcast live on February 28, 1952. Now, this isn’t one of the currently “lost” episodes — you can view it on YouTube as of this writing (it’s typically called “Trip To Palm Springs”) — but the document is a fun curio. Notice how the formatting resembles a radio script — a function of Burns & Allen’s origins. In fact, tracking the series’ transition from radio to the new frontier of television was my coverage’s thesis, so this is the perfect exhibit to admit into evidence. Enjoy! (Oh, and this entry was written by Paul Henning, Sid Dorfman, Harvey Helm, and Willy Burns.)
Come back next week for Get Smart — and stay tuned tomorrow for another rarity!
