Danny Williams: Comic Book Hero (And a Bonus…)

Welcome to a new Wildcard Wednesday! Be sure to check out last week’s post for an update on our contest. But before you do, I’ve got more gifts! For subscribers who comment below to alert me of their interest, I’m offering access to the two-issue run of The Danny Thomas Show comic! These were released in 1961, during the eighth and ninth seasons. Here’s a sample.

And, also, I have a treat for my The Carol Burnett Show fans out there! Thanks to a generous reader of this blog, who faithfully recorded the program back when it first aired, I now have an audio of the last remaining “Family” sketch that we’ve all been missing. This one was broadcast on October 15, 1977, and concerns Mama’s discovery that Ed’s old friend Dan (played by Dick Van Dyke, in his second of three “Family” appearances) has been shacking up with a desperate Eunice. I don’t think I’ll ever be adding this sketch to my list of favorites, but it’s got some fine character-rooted laughs. Enjoy — and happy early birthday to Carol Burnett!

Come back next week for another Wildcard! And stay tuned Tuesday for more Danny Thomas!

      • Got it; I have emailed you at your yahoo address with this and a handful of other items you’ve requested over the past few months.

  1. I’d love to get the Danny Thomas comics. I’ve been watching his show on Cozy Tv the last couple years and I’ve enjoyed it. I definitely agree with you that Sherry Jackson was missed when she left.
