Welcome to a new Wildcard Wednesday! Last week marked my eighth anniversary here on That’s Entertainment!, and I want to extend our celebration into this entry by sharing — with subscribers who comment below to alert me of their interest — access to an episode from the fourth season (1977-1978) of Rhoda (1974-1978, CBS) that was edited on the DVD.
It’s called “Happy Anniversary” — written by Charlotte Brown and directed by Asaad Kelada — and it’s about Rhoda and Brenda throwing a party for their parents’ 40th wedding anniversary. This copy is taken from the original broadcast from January 29, 1978 and boasts a minute-and-a-half of footage missing from the DVD, including exchanges between Ida and her sister-in-law Miriam, Ida and Gary, and Martin and Benny; along with a funny bit where Johnny Venture sings “Let Me Entertain You” before Ida slams the door in his face. Here’s a clip of the latter moment — in celebration of the Morgensterns’ milestone and ours!
Come back next week for another Wildcard! And stay tuned Tuesday for more Barney Miller!
Oooooooh more Rhoda goodness! Please oh please!

This looks interesting.
Hi, Bill! Thanks for reading and commenting.
I have emailed you at your gmail address.
I’d love access to this show. I think this may be the same song that Kenny Dexter sang on DVD SHOW “Big Max Calvada” to open his act, or partly anyway.
Hi, Jon! Thanks for reading and commenting.
No, you’re thinking of “I Love To Hear You Say Encore,” which was a specialty number written by Persky and Denoff especially for that episode of THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW. “Let Me Entertain You” is a standard from Styne and Sondheim’s GYPSY (1959)!

i wonder why it was edited down, i never understand these edits…it seems to happen quite a lot …awesome you found it!!
Hi, Christopher! Thanks for reading and commenting.
I imagine Shout! didn’t want to pay for the rights to “Let Me Entertain You,” so it was easier for the studio to remaster the syndicated copy with the song already excised than the original version that they would have had to then go in and edit themselves. Unfortunately, an extra minute or so of dialogue was also lost in this sacrifice, but, hey, it saved them time and effort.
Let me know if you’d like a copy!
