Anything Goes… Again!

Welcome to a new Musical Theatre Monday! This month, we’re celebrating one of my favorite musicals — my “gateway” to the excitement of Cole Porter, and from there, all the great composers and scores from Broadway’s early 20th century. It’s the classic, still-performed Anything Goes, which premiered on this date in 1934!

I’ve shared some goodies from this gem before, but since it’s not a major anniversary, I thought we’d keep it simple this time; I’m offering — to subscribers who comment below to alert me of their private, non-commercial interest — access to an audio of a 2002 concert production of Anything Goes, starring the cast of the revitalizing 1987 Lincoln Center Revival, reuniting for their own 15th anniversary! It’s a buoyantly rambunctious performance, led by the one-of-a-kind Patti LuPone, heard here in an excerpt — the elegant “I Get A Kick Out Of You.” Enjoy!

Come back next month for another musical rarity! And stay tuned tomorrow for more Martin!

  1. I love Cole Porter. Probably the first composer into whose music I did a deep dive. I was lucky enough to see the Lincoln Center production with Patti – would love to revisit via this concert!

  2. I’d love to hear the audio of the 2002 concert production of Anything Goes. It’s my favorite Cole Porter musical.
