The Producers Go Hollywood

Welcome to a new Musical Theatre Monday! This month, we’re flashing back twenty years ago to the first national tour of The Producers, which enjoyed an eight-month run in Los Angeles with a terrific duo of sitcom veterans in the starring roles: Martin Short and Jason Alexander!

I consider The Producers (2001), based on Mel Brooks’ classic 1967 film, to be one of the funniest musicals from the first decade of the twenty-first century, with a score more hummable than it has any right to be. So, for subscribers who comment below to alert me of their private, non-commercial interest, I’m offering access to a live audio of Short and Alexander in the L.A. stint of this touring productionHere’s a sample — the two stars with “We Can Do It.” Enjoy!

Come back next month for a new musical rarity! And stay tuned tomorrow for more Malcolm!

  1. Hi Jackson
Please send the access to “The Producer”
I need a laugh. I stop going to shows when my dad had a debilitating stroke so never saw the musical but only the movie.
