Welcome to a new Wildcard Wednesday, on a Tuesday! Coverage of Scrubs will begin next week, so in the meantime, I thought I’d share a Halloween treat — an episode of the single-season It’s All Relative (2003-2004, ABC), a series I initially discussed in a 2019 Potpourri piece and then highlighted again in last week’s “clip show” on short-lived multi-cams from the first decade of the 2000s. Naturally, I’m sharing the Halloween entry — an episode I singled out back in 2019 but didn’t rerun in last week’s “clip show.” Titled “The Doctor Is Out” and originally airing on October 29, 2003, this installment was penned by Ellen Byron & Lissa Kapstrom and directed by Ken Levine. It’s a great sample of the series because it reveals the differences between the two families, as the girl’s fathers throw a Cole Porter-themed Halloween party where everyone must use his songs/shows as inspiration for their costumes — a concept totally foreign to the guy’s blue-collar Boston parents. Oh, and Victor Garber guests as the flamboyant party planner — he’s a hoot! So, this is definitely one of It’s All Relative’s best showings, and I’m not just saying that as a Porter fan — it’s also funny and explores the situation. Enjoy!
