We Need A Little Ebersole

Welcome to a new Musical Theatre Monday! This month, we’re paying tribute to Christine Ebersole, who’s celebrating her 70th birthday! I first saw this talented lady in the 2001 revival of 42nd Street (my first Broadway show) and I’ve been a fan of her career ever since — she’s my favorite Ado Annie on record, and I enjoy all of her work with Encores!

However, to celebrate this great Broadway diva, I thought I’d share something unique — with subscribers who comment below to alert me of their private, non-commercial interest. It’s an audio of Ebersole playing the title role in Paper Mill Playhouse’s 1999 production of Mame. Here’s a sample — “If He Walked Into My Life.”

And I’ll also throw in a songs-only recording of the 2004 Hollywood Bowl production, where Ebersole played Vera opposite Michele Lee’s Mame, making her one of the few women (like Elaine Stritch) to play both Mame and Vera! Here’s the duo’s “Bosom Buddies.”

Come back next month for another musical rarity! And stay tuned for more 3rd Rock!
