LADY BE GREAT!

Welcome to a new Wildcard Wednesday! This week I’m offering a sort of bonus Musical Theatre Monday in honor of the 105th anniversary of Oh Lady! Lady!!’s 1918 premiere. Among the best of all the so-called “Princess Theatre shows” — by Jerome Kern, Guy Bolton, and P.G. Wodehouse — Oh Lady! Lady!! originally starred future Rodgers & Hart muse Vivienne Segal, and included a handful of great numbers, including “Not Yet,” “Before I Met You,” “Waiting Around The Corner,” and (before it was cut) the initial version of Show Boat’s classic “Bill.”

In honor of this great score, I’m offering — for subscribers who comment below to alert me of their private, non-commercial interest — access to a live songs-only audio of a concert production conducted by John McGlinn at Carnegie Hall in 1985 (the inspiration for a still-unreleased studio recording). As a taste, here’s George Dvorsky and Jeanne Lehman…

Come back next week for another Wildcard! And stay tuned Tuesday for more 3rd Rock!
