Damn Yankees (and Phil Silvers, too!)

Welcome to a new Musical Theatre Monday! This month, I’m offering, to subscribers who comment below to alert me of their interest, access to another Phil Silvers gem — a copy of the very ’60s TV adaptation of Damn Yankees, which starred Silvers, Lee Remick, Jerry Lanning, Jim Backus, Fran Allison, Ray Middleton, and Linda Lavin, and was first broadcast by NBC on April 8, 1967. The production used to be online years ago, but now only clips can be found. This is your chance to see the WHOLE campy show (an excerpt of which is below)… and, ah, heck, I’ll throw in more Silvers rarities: an audio of the 1971 Pre-Broadway and 1972 Broadway runs of A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum. Let me know!

Come back next month for another Musical rarity! And stay tuned for Leave It To Beaver!

  1. Please send a copy of “Damn Yankees”. I’ve only seen bits and pieces so I look forward to enjoying the entire show. Thanks in advance.

  2. Wonderful performance by such a pro. The imitation of Lawrence Welk? Please keep up your work about Broadway shows.

    • Hi, Jon! Thanks for reading and commenting.

Please subscribe to this blog using your preferred email address and I will send a link your way!

  3. OMG! I remember this broadcast! Please send! Damn Yankees is the first show I saw live on stage way back in 1963. And I’ve done Forum twice, first time as a Protean, and the second time I had the time of my life playing Hysterium. What a treasure trove of entertainment you are, Jackson!

  4. What a great Phil Silvers potpourri! Interestingly, Phil Silvers was a guest a couple days ago on a Dick Cavett rerun and talked about both productions of “Forum”. I’d love to have access to all of the above, Jackson. Thanks again for sharing all this with your readers!
