Back By Popular Demand. . . Carol Channing and Her Seven Deadlies

Welcome to a new Musical Theatre Monday! This month, I’m back in the archives and resharing, for subscribers who comment below to alert me of their private, non-commercial interest, something I’ve seen privately requested a lot lately — access to an ABC-TV special first broadcast on April 14, 1969. Entitled Carol Channing Proudly Presents The Seven Deadly Sinsthis musical-comedy hour riffs on gluttony, envy, lust, wrath, avarice, pride, and sloth.

The special was directed by Clark Jones and written by Hal Goodman, Al Gordon, Ernest Chambers, and Saul Ilson, all of whom had contributed to The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour and the first two of whom had also worked on The Carol Burnett Show. Oh, yeah… Carol Burnett also appears… with Danny Thomas no less! Once again, here’s a clip. Enjoy!

Come back next month for another musical rarity — something, trust me, you’ve never seen before! And stay tuned tomorrow for more sitcom fun!

  1. Thank you, Jackson. I’d appreciate access to the special. And let me take this occasion to say how much I enjoy your pieces on theater. The Literary Society of Broadway posts are consistently enlightening.
