‘S Audio!

Welcome to a new Wildcard Wednesday, on a Tuesday! Tomorrow we’ll see the start of Empty Nest coverage, but in the meantime, this week also marks the 35th anniversary of Fred Astaire’s passing. So, I thought we’d salute this talented gent by revisiting one of his hits — the ‘s wonderful Funny Face (1927), in which he starred with his sister Adele and got to introduce a top-drawer Gershwin score, including such gems as the title song, “High Hat,” “‘S Wonderful,” “Let’s Kiss And Make Up,” “He Loves And She Loves,” and “My One And Only.”

We’ve singled out this iconic tunestack several times before, but now I’ve got a real treat for subscribers — who comment below to alert me of their private, non-commercial interest. It’s access to an audio (with songs tracked out) of the 2016 Musicals Tonight production of Funny Face, which features cut classics and some heretofore never-before-recorded numbers. Below is an example — the opening “Birthday Party.” It’s cute and oh-so-melodically Gershwin!

Come back next week for another Wildcard! And stay tuned tomorrow for Empty Nest!
